A Letter from Founder

I first set foot at Tambolaka Airport, Sumba on May 18th, 2017. In the past, I had traveled for work across the many islands of Indonesia, including Nusa Tenggara, even Flores but never Sumba. Its raw exquisite spirit and untouched beauty captivated me. But I was also moved by the poverty I saw.

The urge to help was immediate.

How can I contribute? How can we create better livelihoods? How can we use the abundant natural resources in their environment to add more value to their lives? This has been my purpose calling and I have spent my adult life in the business of adding value to Indonesia’s natural resources.

After a few days in Sumba, I was re-energized and felt the urge to start a new journey. This new endeavor will be different. This time I intended to bring more power to the smallholders and farmers by creating a sustainable chain that can give value and impact on their lives. I named this enterprise Talasi which in Sanskrit means trees that always bear flowers, fruits, and new leaves with a sweet fragrance. In Native American, Talasi also means Cornflower, which is the symbol of friendship, purity, and hope.

Talasi is about exploring and discovering the potential in obscurity. Talasi is about setting up and operating at the Origin. Talasi is about working with the community, providing them with knowledge, skills, and tools. Investing at the grassroots level and connecting the chain to sustain and maintain nature while enhancing livelihoods. With the end game of empowerment to the people of the land.

With the creation of our premium honest brands, Watu and Toye across food and natural ingredient products, everyone can be part of this vision with each purchase in support of the same values and mission to empower grassroots communities.

It is with pleasure to extend our invitation for you to visit with us at our Estates, now in Sumba and Bali and more to come. Find out yourself the purpose of our presence at the Origins and support us to create a bigger impact.

Our Story

Talasi, was an idea that came to life by our founder, an avid businessman and entrepreneur. The idea was to discover and produce products of premium quality from their Origin which in return help and empowers grassroot communities.

An idea that is now evolving to bigger dreams of more than just buying essential agricultural and raw materials from smallholders and farmers, the dream is to provide better lives at the grassroots and make this world a better place.

Our commitment to produce from the Origin allows access to premium produce, sharing of knowledge for a sustainable supply chain, employment, higher and more stable income, training to improve agriculture practices and are also contributing our part to lessen the carbon footprint of each product.

Our aim is to deliver “happiness” to our Talasi family. Our consumers, our farmers and our people. It is then that our dream is fulfilled. Following our Talasi Theory we will cover one origin at a time until our land is nurtured and prosperous.

After a few days in Sumba, I was reenergized and felt the urge to start a new journey. This new endeavor will be different. This time I intended to bring more power to the smallholders and farmers in creating a sustainable chain that can give value and impact on their lives. And I named this enterprise Talasi which in sanskrit depicts trees that always bear flowers, fruits and new leaves, and a sweet fragrance or cornflower in Latin America.

Talasi is about exploring and discovering the potential in the obscurity. Talasi is about setting up and operating at the Origin. Talasi is about working with the community, providing them with knowledge, skills and tools. We will soon complete our full facilities and retreat in Sumba which is currently roasting our Watu cashews. And our Batukaru Talasi Retreat, Bali opened earlier this year with Flores next in line.

I am excited about what the future holds for “the Origin” and I would like to take this opportunity to extend my personal humble invitation to each and everyone you to visit us and “Experience Talasi”.
